Designer Utilities Training

Tuesday, July 26, 2022 (8:30 AM - 1:30 PM) (EDT)

Description

Training Background: The Utility Coordination Task Force noticed an increasing trend in the number and cost of utility conflicts. Many designers have minimal experience with the differentiating between what utility appurtenances are significant to relocate and what are not. The increasing utility conflict trend also includes designers not fully investigating utility conflicts. Consequently, utility conflicts are not completely resolved before the project goes to construction. This has caused construction claims, delays, and change orders.

Training Purpose: This effort will focus on the ‘Traditional Method’ (submission and markups) however, SUE will also be discussed, as a method of adding utilities to roadway plans.

What you will Learn: To successfully coordinate any and all utility issues during the design phase to reduce or eliminate claims and delays during construction, damages to utilities during construction, and injury or loss of life by a utility hit during construction.

  • Randy Sanborn, Long Engineering
  • Kerry Gore, Surveying and Mapping
  • Aisha Moultrie, GDOT
